Why I Don't Offer Short-Term Fundraising Coaching

Sherry Quam Taylor explains why she doesn't do short-term fundraising coaching.

I get some version of this question often: "Can you just coach me for a few months?"

I understand why leaders ask. Six months feels more manageable than twelve. But sprint engagements are for a deliverable or an assessment. They're not enough to move an organization onto a new revenue path.

Here's why twelve months is the minimum. It takes most donors six months to two years to move into larger, investment-level gifts. I need to be with you and your team through that window, not just at the start of it.

What that looks like in practice: nearly every leader I work with solicits their largest gift during that time. Everyone secures more 4-, 5-, and 6-figure gifts. Clients move project-based gifts to unrestricted ones. They grow their reserve funds and stop tapping into their lines of credit. Teams that were stuck raising the same number for years start raising to their real budget instead. One client's team told me the tools we built together are now second nature in donor meetings, and they closed the quarter with a $200K surplus and their strongest pipeline yet. Frankly, many of my clients add 7-figures to their bottom line quickly.

I can guarantee you, this isn't a faster version of what you're already doing. It's a different model entirely, one rooted in aligning your team's hours with dollars instead of activity.

If your strategic plan calls for real growth and you know your current funding model won't get you there, this is the work that closes that gap year after year.

I'll be filling 2027 January starting spots as applications come in, not on a fixed date. I work on a first-come, first-serve. You can apply here.
