Nonprofit Relational Fundraising is About Momentum

Image of a city in motion showing how nonprofit relational fundraising is about building slow, steady momentum through discipline, consistency, and rhythm.

The other day, during a board workshop about fundraising, one of my clients said a phrase that I immediately wrote down….

He said, “We’re looking for momentum…not a miracle.”

I loved it.

Especially in the context of relational fundraising.

If more orgs focused on momentum (and the discipline, consistency, and rhythm required) they eventually would have more miracles in the form of steady 5-, 6-, and 7- figure gifts.

Sustainable fundraising is a multi-year infrastructure project that is slow and steady. It builds momentum.

But, most give up on this approach before the momentum hits its peak. They think, “There must be an easier way.”

But, no.

The Tortoise always beats the Hare. And Momentum always beats Miracles.
