Create a Real Needs-Based Budget for Your Nonprofit

Image of a desk with nonprofit financials and a real needs-based budget

One of the first exercises I have my clients do?

Create a real needs-based budget . . .

You know…the real number you actually need to accomplish your mission…

✅ WITH a reserve

✅ WITH  salaries at living wage

✅ WITH professional development

✅ WITH technology improvements

✅ WITH a grant writer

✅ WITH board training

✅ WITH the program scholarships you’ve always wanted to give

Here’s what’s funny…

You’d think this exercise would be freeing. But it’s typically a rather difficult exercise because we’ve been taught to be irrationally frugal.

You see, in the nonprofit sector we’re conditioned to think that we can do without.

Not true. It’s never been true.

How will we put a plan in place to raise to your organization’s true financial need if we don’t know what that number is in the first place?

It will take all of us to change that narrative and do things differently.

This is the first step to creating a realistic, hours-to-dollars funding model for organizations who want to scale and diversify their revenue. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch these shifts in strategy take place.

Sherry’s clients know how to attract larger donors by solving the funding challenges at the root of the issue.

As a result of learning her methodology, Sherry’s clients become sustainable, diversify revenue, and know how to add significant amounts gen-ops revenue to their budgets. But mostly, their development departments and board have transformed into high-ROI revenue generators – aligning their hours with relational dollars and set free from the limitations of transactional fundraising.

Sherry attributes the success of her business to her passion for modeling radical confidence to the future CEOs in her house - her two college-aged daughters.
