Nonprofit Leaders: Are you looking for places where you can scale donations?

“The more work we’ve done together the more opportunities I see for us.” That’s the comment my client made to me the other day. My heart sang…🤍

The biggest thing I wish leaders could see is the money sitting there on the table.

Sometimes it's millions.

I can see it fairly early…but sometimes it takes a bit of time for my clients to see it also.

Are you looking for places where you can scale donations? Start with this list:

🔎That individual who’s mailed in a $1,000 check multiple times at random times during the year? They’re writing a $25K check to the organization down the road.

🔎…Individual who buys a ticket to your event most years and gives (or buys an auction item). They’re doing what you’re asking them to do and might not know you need more money.

🔎…Individual who gives in-kind, through a membership-fee, or program services who doesn’t understand how you’re funded or that you’re a traditional nonprofit.

🔎…Family Foundation on auto-pilot - just sends the same amount every year but you’ve noticed others getting larger commitments.

🔎...Business who has been a traditional event sponsor in the past but may be mission-aligned and would give a greater gift after you have an investment-level conversation.

🔎…Board Member who only gives their minimum Give/Get or as the result of an event. Too often it’s not their best gift and they could give more but aren’t being solicited.

Last thing I’ll say about this. All of these shifts are moving a transaction to a relationship where investment-level conversations happen. Full stop.

Your team must be trained and gain that skillset. Every day I speak to seasoned fundraisers who have never done this. They've never had the training. They are stuck on the events and appeals spin cycle.

Let's change that in 2026.
