One Very Important Thing That’s Holding Back Nonprofits From Growing Their Revenue

The longer I’m in business, the more I’ve realized one VERY important thing that’s holding too many nonprofit organizations back from growing their revenue…

That thing?

The majority of fundraisers aren’t having investment-level conversations with donors.

They’re hosting site visits. They’re sending emails. They’re having meetings.

But, they aren’t having investment-level conversations.

Why? Well, I don’t mean to sound harsh, but too many don’t know what an investment-level conversation even is.

What do I see every day in my business? Fundraisers learning there is an ENTIRELY NEXT LEVEL of relationship building and cultivation that most miss.

It’s…

❌ Beyond impact stats.

❌ Beyond programmatic descriptions.

❌ Beyond numbers served.

❌ Beyond stories and photos.

It’s…

👍Emailing/Speaking in a way that keeps you in control (but not pushy)

👍Confidently walking through financials

👍Discussing the transparent business behind your nonprofit (not just programs)

👍Providing exclusive stakeholder information

👍Soliciting for a donor’s best gift, every year (1:1, not via an email or application)

CEO - If your team is depending on site visits, one meeting, an email appeal, or events to scale your general-operating revenue, there's a bigger problem at hand.

There is skillset work to do!

Last thing I’ll say about this…

This is why I work with my clients for 12 months minimum. Teams must be equipped with the skills of TORTOISE mentality (vs. HARE mentality) when it comes to fundraising. The tactics of the HARE don’t translate to major donors.

I address this in my GUIDE I call Tortoise vs. Hare…Who wins in nonprofit fundraising? Read the Guide.
