One of the Reasons Your Nonprofit Revenue Isn’t Growing or Diversifying

Nonprofit CEOs: Too often revenue isn’t growing or diversifying because you haven’t integrated a development lens throughout your organization.

Here’s what I mean…

🛑 Accounting & Budgeting

What do I see? Too many squeak-by budgets that aren’t inspiring to donors, rooted in irrational frugality, and keep your development team from exceeding their goal.

🛑 Programs

What do I see? Too many donors confused by what you do because you’re leading with the list of 12 projects that are currently funded through your org. This lack of high-level clarity is keeping donors from giving gen-ops dollars to you.

🛑 Graphics/Marketing/Communications

What do I see? Too much mis-aligned donor outreach and cultivation that actually keep donors from giving larger gifts and leave money on the table. True mid- and major-level donor mar/comms doesn’t happen on Instagram or Facebook.

🛑 Strategic Planning

What do I see? Investment-level donors giving restricted gifts or sporadic gifts because they don’t understand why giving unrestricted donations for your infrastructure and staff growth is your most critical need. Too many Strategic Plans don’t have accompanying needs-based budgets for development teams to sell. And too many teams don't know how they'd ask for unrestricted donations anyhow!

All of these items need a development lens put on them. They need to be translated into something a donor can deeply understand and then get excited about.

Without a donor POV translation, you’re likely leaving thousands of dollars on the table.
